I’m excited to announce my involvement and the official launch of the You Can’t Stop Me project. This is an anti-bullying awareness campaign dreamed up by Mr. New Mexico Pride 2016, Tre Brewbaker. It is meant to be a follow-up campaign that builds upon the work of the It Gets Better video series and Trevor Project.
The campaign focuses on reaching out to youth through sharing stories and experiences with bullying. People are encouraged to reach out to youth to say, “I’ve been there and I get it. But I survived. And you will too.”
The project officially commenced yesterday with its first day of filming. We are currently filming short clips of members of our community, which will be edited into a three-minute commercial to be debuted at Albuquerque’s 2016 OUTstanding Awards.
The premiere will launch the project into phase two, in which we collect longer, detailed stories from members of our community. Eventually, during the third phase, Albuquerque will challenge other communities around New Mexico (and around the United States) to contribute to the project.
Our end goal is to collect thousands of individual experiences from people who want to reach out to youth who are suffering and show them that there is a way out – that every moment of pain is an opportunity to become something even greater.
Because when we come together and support each other with compassion, empathy, and courage, we are unstoppable.
